Weekly Rewind: Langley Go Top

Matchweek 13 has passed, with TSS Rovers having a Sunday to forget in the Men’s Division. There were also dropped points at the summit of the Women’s Division.

Rising to the challenge

The gap at the top of the Women’s Division has been tightened after Vancouver Rise Academy enjoyed a 2-1 win against Burnaby on Friday. The visitors took the lead through Saira Johal, but Myla Ewasiuk equalized in the second half, and Daniela Feria-Estrada turned the game on its head to move the hosts into the title fight.

A day later, Langley United claimed their fourth win of the season and moved into fifth place when they beat Nanaimo United 3-0. Jayden Hannesson, Hannah Lorenz, and Kiana Langston scored to secure the points, leaving their opponents on 11 points and in eighth.

Saturday’s other match saw Evolution and Kamloops play out a 1-1 tie. Noelle Sather’s penalty opened the scoring in the first half, and Grace Barrett equalized at the beginning of the second period. The result leaves Kamloops at the bottom of the standings, but it was their first game without losing since May 17.

The league leaders also failed to win this weekend, with Altitude tying 1-1 at home to TSS Rovers. The hosts had the chance to maintain a five-point gap to second place, but Sophie Campbell’s goal brought the scores level after Shila Rasoul’s opener, and that is how the match stayed.

A new leader

In the Men’s Division, the weekend began with a 0-0 tie between Vancouver Whitecaps Academy and Burnaby, but a new league leader emerged a day later.

Langley United went into Saturday with the chance to go top, and they took it by beating Nanaimo United 4-0 at Willoughby Athletic Park to move onto 26 points. Emmanuel Santo Lando’s brace, alongside Matin Ostovari’s goal and an own goal from Fergus Hall, moved the hosts to the summit.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Evolution claimed their third win of 2025 when they beat Kamloops 2-0. Dominic di Paola continued his goalscoring form with a brace, as the home side moved onto 12 points and further away from the bottom.

TSS Rovers had the opportunity to reclaim top spot on Sunday but handed Langley the advantage by losing at Altitude. Nathan Walters’ finish in the first half was the only goal of the game as the visitors were handed their second defeat of the season. There is just one point between the top two, and Altitude and Burnaby are now within four points of first place.
