Weekly Rewind: Expect the unexpected
Amir Ghasemi’s stoppage-time penalty saw Langley United become Men’s Division champions after Kamloops United beat title-holders TSS Rovers.

Right at the death
The Men’s Division title could have been won by TSS Rovers on Friday night, before the eventual champions Langley United had even stepped foot on the field.
The Rovers had held top spot for most of the season but were defeated on Friday night by Kamloops. After TSS took the lead through Lowell Wright – a lead that would have seen them win the 2025 title – Lachlan Will and Charlie Stewart scored for Kamloops to turn the game around for their seventh win of the season.
The result kept Langley alive, and they travelled to Vancouver Whitecaps Academy a day later knowing they needed to win to secure the title. Brody Thomas gave them the lead in the 17th minute, before Charlie Rogers and Ryder Sewell made it 2-1 to the hosts.
As tensions rose, Axl de Vries equalized with 30 minutes left, and Amir Ghasemi stepped up from the penalty spot in the fifth minute of stoppage time to secure his side the championship with the last kick of the game.
Elsewhere, as the season came to a finish, Burnaby enjoyed a 2-1 win over Altitude with Asvin Chauhan scoring a brace, and Nanaimo United claimed their second victory of 2025 with a 4-1 win at Unity. Josh Rayner and Suka Behery scored either side of Maxwell and Marshall Dadzie’s goals to end their campaign on a high note.
An entertaining season
The Women’s Division title was wrapped up several games ago by Altitude, and they finished their season on Friday with a 2-0 success at Burnaby, Kiara Kilbey and Paige Payne scoring their goals. With 14 wins in 16, it was the icing on the cake for them going into the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship.
TSS Rovers also ended 2025 with three points as Sophie Campbell scored the only goal of the game at Kamloops.
There were goals galore on Sunday when Vancouver Rise Academy secured the runners-up spot with a 5-1 win against Langley United and their ninth victory in a row, while Unity defeated Nanaimo United 4-1 at Cloverdale Athletic Park.
Ready for the postseason
Altitude will play in the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, and are set to face the winner of the League1 Ontario Women’s Premier Division in the semifinals on Friday, August 8.
Langley meanwhile have the offseason to look forward to their debut in the TELUS Canadian Championship in 2026.
