wipc25 preview: Altitude FC
It’s one week out from kick-off at the 2025 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship.

It’s one week out from kickoff of the 2025 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship and Altitude FC of League1 BC stands alone as the only team to date to qualify for this year’s competition.
Head Coach Jesse Symons’ side clinched its place at next week’s competition in Sherwood Park, Alta. in style, wrapping up the League1 BC title on July 10, with two match weekends still to play in the regular season.
OneSoccer’s Mackenzie Barwell caught up with Symons this week, to get to know a little bit more about the side that will look to become the third League1 BC to capture the Inter-Provincial Championship cup in three years.
Here’s what he had to say about his team as they prepare to face the League1 Ontario champion in the tournament’s first semifinal, kicking off on Friday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. MT:
On Altitude FC’s style of play:
“We have a lot of really dynamic players within our environment. We’re very structured and then we let our players show their quality and connection with each other.
“As a team we’ve been very good on both sides of the ball, both attacking and defending. We’re a team too that likes to really control the tempo, so if the other team has it we want to try to get after them a bit and win the ball back. If we have it, we want to try and go and create and make them uncomfortable. Hopefully we’re able to do that at the [championship].”
On how League1 BC prepared Altitude FC for the 2025 Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship:
“League1 BC is very, very good, a lot of very talented players in the league across all the clubs. It’s been great to see the progression of adding teams as well this year. It’s only going up with women’s soccer in BC and I’ve been very happy with how our team performed and progressed from game one all the way to game 16 this season.”
On Altitude FC players to watch:
Symons pointed to strikers Jayda Thompson and Kiara Kilbey and fullbacks Sophia Ferrera and Olivia Gomes as players to watch among Altitude FC’s group next weekend.
On Thompson, who scored a team-leading seven goals in League1 BC in 2025, he said, “She’s going to be electric there I’m sure.
“She’s a winner. She’s helped win two national championships with [the University of British Columbia] the last two years as well and scores goals wherever she plays and wherever she goes. She’s a big game player and someone I’m hoping a lot of [Northern Super League] teams are looking at for the future as she finishes off her career at UBC.”
On the opportunity the Inter-Provincial Championship presents for Altitude FC players:
“From the beginning it was an objective to get to this tournament because of [the] exposure. Seeing the NSL just flourishing right now this year and having players just seeing that as their ambition, it’s an opportunity to really be front and centre in front of the national eyes against top clubs from across our country so I’m hoping we perform well. What an opportunity that we’ve been given.”
On what Symons is expecting from the semifinal match:
“We just need to get after it from the get go. We’ve been put against the Ontario League1 champions, there’s three teams fighting for that spot right now, so excited to play any one of those teams in that first match but all the teams will be very good.”
On the team’s mindset heading into the competition:
“We’ve gone game by game every game this year and we’ve been fortunate to break a lot of records with our results but overall we’re going to have that same mindset right from the get go, try and get on the ball and try to control the game. If we can do that and score some goals and be very good defensively hopefully that’s the sign of success and getting that trophy at the end, but if not hopefully a lot of players get seen and they move on to the next level as well.”
The final word:
“We’re a team that has a lot of senior players and a lot of players that have played in big games, so they’ll be ready to roll, for sure, when we hear that whistle on the eighth.”
