Weekly Rewind: First L1BC wins for Langley and Evolution
There were plenty of goals across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions on Saturday, including hat-trick heroes, comebacks, and late drama.

Two sides of a TSS story
TSS Rovers men did not start their title-defending season with the win they wanted, but in Matchweek Two they claimed a staggering 6-1 win away to Vancouver Whitecaps Academy.
An Ivan Mejia hat-trick, plus a brace from Michael Hennessy had the visitors 5-0 up with 15 minutes to play, and Avi Alemu rubbed salt in the wounds to make it six after Kyler Vojvodic’s late consolation.
On the women’s side, it was a much different story as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Vancouver Rise Academy. Last season’s new-look champions were too much to handle for TSS, who did take an early lead through Sophia Feramo, but a Jade Mitchell brace, a Daniela Feria-Estrada goal, and an own goal from Taylor Nekic made sure Vancouver took all three points.
Evolution win on the road
Both the men’s and women’s Evolution teams began the season without a win, but Matchweek Two had a different story.
The women’s team beat Nanaimo United on Saturday, running out as 3-1 winners. Zoe Black started the game perfectly with a goal within the first minute, before an Isabelle Dobbin brace put the game beyond doubt.
Evolution’s men also started their game fast thanks to a Frixos Petsas goal within two minutes. That was the only goal of the match, as Evolution took the win and a clean sheet away from home to move alongside leaders TSS Rovers on four points in the standings.
Burnaby and Unity swap big results
Both Burnaby and Unity ran out as 4-0 winners on Saturday, with the men’s Burnaby team and women’s Unity side taking all three points in their respective divisions.
There were four different scorers in the men’s win, with Luke Norman, Kyle Dent, and Asvin Chauhan making it 3-0 to Burnaby at half-time. Yu-Hsuan Yuan then got in on the act in the 83rd minute to ensure they began the season in perfect style.
In the Women’s Division, the result put Unity top of the standings, even after playing one less game than Rise Academy in second place. An Ava Jones early own goal was the first of four first-half goals – Seina Kashima, Erin Stewart, and Jenna Baxter completing the 45-minute rout.
Five-goal thrillers
Much like the Burnaby versus Unity games, Kamloops and Langley swapped 3-2 results across the two divisions.
It was Langley who won in the women’s competition, with two late goals to steal all three points on the road. Kamloops took the lead twice thanks to an Ainsley Grether goal after four minutes, and Katharine Stewart cancelling out Raya Athwal’s equalizer.
However, Athwal completed her brace in the last minute of the game to make it 2-2, before Reese Moffatt stole the points in injury time to give Langley their first win in League1 BC.
In the men’s league, it was the reverse result with Kamloops taking the points. It was more of a back-and-forth game with Kamloops’ Riad Jaha and Isaac Tate turning the game on its head after Langley’s Brody Thomas opened the scoring.
Javier Sagaste made it 3-1 to Kamloops with ten minutes to play, and despite Amir Mahdi Ghasemi’s 87th-minute goal giving Langley hope, the hosts held out for victory.
