Weekend Preview: Building momentum
The L1BC season continues this weekend with several clubs looking to continue their winning starts to the year.

Friday night under the lights
With several teams having played two games, and some only one, Matchweek Three may give a stronger indication as to which teams are looking in the best shape in 2025.
Reigning men’s champions TSS Rovers host Langley United to kick off the weekend. The home side currently sit top of the table with a win and a tie after two matches, and Langley are aiming to bounce back following their 3-2 defeat at Kamloops United.
Both clubs have already won in the Women’s Division; TSS began the year with a 3-0 win at home to Evolution, and Langley took all three points on their travels to Kamloops thanks to two late goals.
Two games on Saturday
The first of Saturday’s matches involves Unity travelling to Vancouver in both divisions.
In the women’s league, it is first versus second as both teams have already registered victories. Unity currently sit top after their 4-0 win away at Burnaby, and defending champions Vancouver Rise Academy have one win and a loss against TSS and Altitude, respectively.
Last season’s champions beat Unity in the opening fixture of 2024, running out as 5-1 winners thanks to a Kierra Blundell hat-trick. Unity were later defeated in the playoffs on penalties by Burnaby, so they are another team looking for silverware this season.
In the Men’s Division, the Whitecaps Academy have one win and one loss so far, while Unity tasted defeat to Burnaby in their first game. The teams tied 1-1 in both games against each other in 2024, so will someone find three points this weekend?
Saturday’s other matches involve Kamloops United and visitors Evolution. The away men’s team have begun the season with a win and a tie, while the women’s team have won one and lost one.
For Kamloops, their teams swapped results in their opening game of 2025 – the men beating Langley 3-2 and the women losing by the same scoreline. To read more about Kamloops’ aspirations this year, check out our recent interview with General Manager Lyle Dos Santos.
Getting off the mark
The final matchups of the weekend see Altitude face Nanaimo United at Kinsmen Field. This doubleheader is live on League1 BC’s YouTube channel.
In the Men’s Division, both teams have begun 2025 with defeats; the home side were beaten 2-1 by Whitecaps Academy thanks to a late Noel Poole goal, and Nanaimo lost to Evolution.
Altitude had a strong 2024, finishing second in the regular season, but eventually lost to TSS Rovers in the final. For Nanaimo, they are looking for their first win since their rebrand from Harbourside.
In the Women’s Division, Nanaimo also suffered defeat in their opening match, going down 3-1 at home to Evolution. Altitude, though, are looking to make it two wins from two following a late 3-2 victory in their opening match against Vancouver Rise Academy.
