Weekly Rewind: Epic victories

There were some huge comeback wins across League1 BC this week as teams battle for important points.

A Saturday goal fest

It was a Saturday of pure entertainment in the Men’s Division, with a couple of extraordinary results.

Unity’s men secured their second win of 2025 by beating Langley United 5-3 away from home. The visitors responded to Brody Thomas’ early opener with five goals, coming from Lenon Thompson, Victory Shumbusho, and a hat-trick from Kieran Eve. Amir Mahdi Ghasemi and another Thomas goal could not complete Langley’s comeback.

Unity also won in the Women’s Division to continue their perfect start to 2025. Jenna Baxter opened the scoring just before half-time, and Seina Kashima doubled their lead on 50 minutes to make it four wins from four to start the season.

Evolution were victorious in the Men’s Division, with a 4-3 home victory over Vancouver Whitecaps Academy. The visitors went into a 2-0 lead in the first half, before a Hamish Ogden goal and Frixos Petsas’ hat-trick put Evolution in control. Kyler Vojdovic got one back with nine minutes left, but it was not enough.

Defending champions Vancouver Rise Academy had a nervy ending to their 2-1 win at Evolution. Every goal came in the second half, with Quinn Johnson making it 1-0 before Chloe Taylor’s goal on 79 minutes. Catie Cameron got one back in the third minute of injury time, but Evolution could not make it level.

Important points on Sunday

Nanaimo United’s women got their first points of 2025 with a dramatic 3-2 win over Kamloops United. Cara Freeman and Norah Bell put the visitors 2-0 up, but an Avery Henderson brace, followed by a stoppage-time winner from Bronte Fitzsimmons, earned an important comeback victory.

There was more late drama when Altitude beat Burnaby 2-1 to continue their perfect start to the season and keep them level on points with Unity. Aurora Hughes-Goyette put the hosts 1-0 up ahead of Johal Saira’s equalizer, before Jayda Thompson won the game in the fourth minute of injury time to take maximum points.

In the Men’s Division, Kamloops remained unbeaten at the top of the standings after their convincing 4-0 away win at Nanaimo. Every goal came late in the game, with the opener coming in the 68th minute from Ben Finley, who completed his brace 12 minutes later between Lucas Kirnon’s and Riad Jaha’s goals.

There was also a 0-0 tie between Altitude and Burnaby, as the home side remain winless and Burnaby sit second in the men’s standings.
