Weekly Rewind: Ruthless finishing and bouncing back

Another weekend of L1BC has come to a close, with numerous teams enjoying massive wins.

A sublime nine

One of the biggest talking points of the weekend was Unity’s huge 9-3 win over Kamloops, as they bounced back from their first defeat of the season. Jenna Baxter and Mansha Sidhu both scored braces, alongside goals from Elizabeth Hicks, Kya Thackwray, Caitlin Cooper, Seina Kashima, and a Cassandra de Amaral own goal, to give Unity their sixth win of 2025.

Elsewhere, there were slightly fewer goals on Friday in Burnaby’s 1-0 home win against Langley United. Kirsten Koellmel scored the only goal of the game to give the hosts their second win of the season and move only three points behind fifth place.

Also on Friday, TSS Rovers secured maximum points in a 3-1 away win against Evolution. The visitors took the lead through Sophia Feramo, but they were pegged back by Isabella Muzzolin on the stroke of half-time. The scorer went from hero to zero, though, when she was sent off seven minutes into the second half, leaving the home side on the back foot. Erin van Dolder and Willow Bourbonnais secured the points for TSS with late goals.

To conclude the weekend, Vancouver Rise Academy enjoyed a 4-0 home win against Nanaimo United. Jade Mitchell missed a penalty in the first half but made up for it 15 minutes later with a brace. The other two goals then came from Lacey Kindel and Bianca Patik to keep Vancouver in the top three.

End-to-end entertainment

It was a weekend of goalscoring drama in the Men’s Division, as the battle at the summit continued.

On Friday, TSS Rovers retained a three-point gap to second place in their title defence with a 2-1 away win at Evolution. The hosts took the lead through Dominic di Paola, but Luis Klimo equalized on the stroke of half-time. With the game looking like it was ending level, Ousman Touray scored the winner in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Langley also enjoyed a 2-1 win against Burnaby. The former sit just four points away from first place but with a game in hand. They took a 2-0 lead into half-time with goals from Amir Ghasemi and Joey Buchanan, and they held on to the points following Asvin Chauhan’s second-half consolation goal.

Saturday was a day of high-scoring games, beginning with Vancouver Whitecaps Academy’s 3-2 victory over Nanaimo United. The hosts claimed their second win of 2025 thanks to goals from Mattero Samori, Kyler Vojvodic, and Marley Edwards.

To tie up Men’s Division action, Unity beat Kamloops United 4-3 in a thrilling game. Victory Shumbusho’s first-half brace and Sean Freeman’s own goal made it 3-0 to Unity at the break, but Freeman spared his blushes by scoring twice, alongside Javier Sagaste’s goal, to bring it back level. Unity retook the lead late through Naseeb Bains, to earn their third win of 2025.
