Weekend Preview: Time to step up

With several sides out of action this weekend, it’s a big one to gain points.

Looking for cloud nine

Clear Women’s Division leaders Altitude claimed their eighth win from eight last week. They are back in action, but rivals Unity have a weekend off.

Following their 3-0 away victory at Nanaimo last Saturday, Altitude moved themselves onto 24 points and can make it nine from nine this week against Kamloops. In a top versus bottom match, they face off on Sunday in the last of the matchweek’s games. The visitors have one win from nine so far, so need a big result against the form side.

On Saturday, Vancouver Rise Academy host Evolution in a bid to put pressure on Altitude. The home side have put themselves into a nice position in the standings, but remain five points off the top after playing two extra games. Their opponents are currently fifth after a mixed start, with four wins and five losses.

Burnaby host Nanaimo, two sides who sit side-by-side in the standings on eight points. Although the home side have played an extra game – a 1-1 tie with Langley United on Wednesday – they are only four points away from Evolution in fifth. A win for either of these could start to propel them up the standings.

An opportunity arises

Langley tied 1-1 with Burnaby on Wednesday and are currently top of the Men’s Division, while TSS Rovers sit third after slipping down the standings. With both out of action this weekend, it gives Burnaby a chance to move up.

Although TSS have a game in hand behind them, Burnaby can move into top spot with a win against Nanaimo on Saturday. The home side sit on 20 points at this stage, two behind Langley, with six wins from ten. With three points against a winless Nanaimo side, the pressure is then on for those around them.

Elsewhere, Vancouver Whitecaps Academy are the home side for their 11th game of the season against Evolution. These sides sit in seventh and eighth currently, so both need a win to cement themselves as mid-table sides. The hosts can make it three wins in a row, while Evolution are looking to put their three consecutive defeats behind them.

Finally, Altitude host Kamloops as both sides aim to move into the top-three battle. The latter are one point ahead of their opponents, and a win would move them to within three points of TSS.
