Evolution FC to join League1 BC in 2025
The new soccer teams, powered by Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club, will take to the field for the first time in League1 BC next season.
Vancouver, BC – (July 23, 2024) – League1 BC can confirm that Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club (CMFSC) have been awarded with licenses that will enable them to participate as Evolution FC in the Men’s and Women’s Divisions in 2025.
Coquitlam Metro-Ford is one of the largest soccer clubs in the province with more than 4,500 members making up 300-plus teams from under-four through to adult level.
The expansion to League1 BC is a step closer to the club’s vision of a new high-performance academy with the men’s and women’s teams at the pinnacle of this pathway. As a result, the League1 BC teams will be named Evolution FC.
Evolution FC – powered by CMFSC – will be supported by the club’s U14-U18 and adult programs, aiming to provide homegrown youth players with the opportunity to step up to Pro-Am soccer.
Preparing players for the next level of the game is something the club is well-accustomed to; in 2023, 24 players graduated to collegiate programs and 17 joined Vancouver Whitecaps MLS or Girls Elite academies.
Evolution FC will play League1 BC home games at Percy Perry Stadium at Town Centre Park – a complex that has hosted Coquitlam Metro-Ford for several years.
Sara Maglio, Executive Director of CMFSC, said: “We are incredibly honoured to be awarded this license to become part of a nationwide, standards-based league, bridging the gap between grassroots, high performance, and professional football.
“We believe that an ecosystem built by Canadians for Canadians, grounded in local communities, and built on a sports entertainment business model is essential to creating a strong, enduring football culture.”
Stuart Neely, General Manager of League1 BC, said: “There was plenty of quality and ambition in the 2025 League1 BC expansion applications, and Coquitlam Metro-Ford were one of the clubs that stood out in several aspects.
“CMFSC have a long and successful history, dating back to the founding of Metro-Ford Soccer Club in 1984, and the backroom team showed great passion to build on the club’s strong footing in the soccer community to create a program that will positively impact current and future generations of players in Coquitlam.
“The 2024 regular season has been a memorable one for all involved, and we look forward to welcoming CMFSC to the League1 BC calendar next year as we aim to continue enhancing the Pro-Am game in British Columbia and across Canada.”
