Langley United set for historic TELUS Canadian Championship test after Draw reveal

Langley United learned their opponent in the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship on Saturday, Jan. 17, after Canada Soccer conducted the official draw at the OneSoccer studio.
League1 BC’s provincial champions were drawn against Canadian Premier League (CPL) side Vancouver FC in a preliminary-round matchup scheduled to be played between May 5 and May 10, setting up a local showdown between two clubs that both call Langley home.
For Technical Director Mark Parker, qualification alone represents a defining moment in the club’s history.
“Qualifying for the TELUS Canadian Championship is a landmark moment in the history of Langley United,” said Parker. “For the club, it is the ultimate validation of our technical vision and the hard work put in by our board, the coaching staff and administration over the years.”
Beyond the achievement itself, Parker pointed to what the competition represents for players within the club’s pathway.
“For the players, this is an unparalleled platform,” he said. “It provides them with the opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage against professional opposition, including potential matchups against CPL or MLS clubs.”
The draw delivered a particularly meaningful challenge, with Langley United set to test themselves against a full-time professional opponent from their own community.
“We are under no illusions about the size of the task; they are a full-time professional outfit with resources and a daily training environment that we simply don’t have,” Parker said. “But that challenge is exactly why we are excited.”
From a sporting perspective, Parker emphasized both the timing and the significance of the opportunity, with the 2026 TELUS Canadian Championship coinciding with Langley United’s 100th anniversary.
“To be competing in the TELUS Canadian Championship during our 100th anniversary is incredibly special,” he said. “I take immense pride in the fact that, a full century after this club was founded, our development pathway is producing players ready to go toe-to-toe with a CPL side.”
As preparations begin, Parker stressed that the occasion belongs as much to the community as it does to the club.
“This is your celebration,” he said. “We are marking our 100th anniversary with the biggest match in our history, right here against our neighbours.”
