League1 BC Opens Application Process for 2023 Expansion

Ahead of inaugural season, BC Soccer is opening applications to operate a League1 BC Club in 2023.

Since launching the Province’s standards-based adult semi-professional league for males and females last October, BC Soccer has been extremely pleased by the  excitement generated within the soccer community in addition to the commitment and investment from our founding seven (7) License Holders (Clubs).

The Clubs preparing to represent their communities starting May 22, 2022  are Altitude FCTSS RoversWhitecaps FCVictoria HighlandersUnity FCRivers FC and Varsity FC.

As anticipation builds for the inaugural season, so does the number of inquiries related to joining the league beyond 2022.  BC Soccer is very encouraged by the level and scale of non-solicited interest from potential stakeholders who represent candidate communities from all corners of British Columbia.

The aim of League1 BC is to create opportunity within standards-based environments in communities that represent as many unique regions of our province as possible.  Therefore, BC Soccer is opening the application process now to allow a long preparation runway for those seeking to become future license-holders.

“We have established a robust application process that is meant to enhance the league and provide prospect applicants with a clear outline of the necessary standards to operate at this level. Our goal is to solidify the footprint of League1 BC across the Province and continually improve the standards of the league.” said Gabriel Assis, BC Soccer Director of Operations and Chair of the League1 BC Steering Group.

The successful candidates will be licensed to operate both male and female teams in communities with appropriate semi-professional venues, factoring geographic areas that are not currently served or are under-served.  Successful applicants will have to meet the outlined criteria before entering the league in 2023. The standards outlined in the application follows the necessary requirements for operation at this level and incorporate the Canada Soccer National Club License standards for adult semi-professional clubs.

The full application timeline is contained within the attached document, with initial Letters of Intent (on-line application form) due by the end of March, and the awarding of new Licenses by July of 2022.
