playoff preview
The postseason has arrived with the top four teams in each division battling it out to be crowned League1 BC champions.

Women’s Division
Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy vs TSS Rovers FC
Friday, July 26
Thunderbird Stadium
Kick-off: 6pm
Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy have enjoyed an undefeated season, winning the Women’s Division regular-season trophy with games to spare as they registered 10 wins from 12 matches in 2024.
Their playoff semifinal opponents TSS Rovers FC also secured their playoff spot before the final matchweek, creating an unassailable buffer between themselves and the postseason chasers below them. They come into the playoffs as outsiders with just over half the points total of the Whitecaps and wins and losses in equal measure.
The Whitecaps have beaten the Rovers twice this season, a 5-0 win in May coming before a closer 2-0 victory at the end of June, but let’s not forget that TSS have won three of their last five matches so may be more prepared than ever to topple the table toppers.
Unity FC vs Burnaby FC
Sunday, July 28
Cloverdale Athletic Park
Kick-off: 2pm
Only three points separated Unity FC and Burnaby FC in the final regular-season standings with Unity enjoying four wins from their last five games to snatch a postseason home semifinal – something Burnaby have been gunning for all season.
Their head-to-head at the start of the campaign was foreboding of the close positional battle that would follow, as they tied 1-1. The next leg at Cloverdale Athletic Park, however, may stick in the minds of the Burnaby stars on their return as a 6-1 defeat to Unity ruined a run of great results.
But the postseason is a chance to start afresh, and although Unity come into this one with better form, Burnaby have shown that they can get results on the road and are not a team to be messed with.
Men’s Division
TSS Rovers FC vs Harbourside FC
Friday, July 26
Swangard Stadium
Kick-off: 7pm
TSS Rovers FC secured back-to-back appearances in the TELUS Canadian Championship after winning the Men’s Division regular season. They showed their quality against Canadian Premier League opposition back in the spring, and returning in 2025 with a trophy behind them will no doubt be extra motivation to win the League1 BC postseason.
While Rovers were the story at the start of the campaign, their visitors Harbourside stole the show in the final matchweek as they secured their playoff spot by winning 3-0 against TSS – who had already wrapped up the regular-season title and were ready to take the silverware back to Swangard.
The result will give underdogs Harbourside some more confidence heading into the playoffs, but they will need to be at the top of their game if they are to defeat a team that won four matches on the bounce to secure their spot at the standings’ summit.
Altitude FC vs Whitecaps FC Academy
Sunday, July 28
Kinsmen Field
Kick-off: 1pm
Altitude FC are the only Men’s Division team to enter the playoffs following victory (Harbourside lost to Unity on the final day after securing the postseason spot). They came out strong against a young Burnaby side to claim their sixth three-point haul of the season and put them out of reach of Whitecaps FC Academy who, up until then, mathematically had a shot at leapfrogging them for the home semifinal slot.
In the end, the Whitecaps lost 4-1 to Rivers; it was their joint-worst defeat of the season as TSS Rovers beat them by the same scoreline back in May. But make no mistake – Whitecaps will be firing on all cylinders in the playoffs to reclaim their finals trophy from last season.
The last time Unity and Whitecaps’ men’s teams met resulted in a 1-1 tie, and it was the same scoreline in April exactly two months before their playoff date. If these results are anything to go by, it will be fine margins that decide their all-or-nothing battle on Sunday.
