Weekend Preview: Battle between leaders

There is a top-two clash in the Men’s Division, and a chance to continue perfect starts in the women’s.

A battle at the top

On a Sunday that could have big implications in the title race, TSS Rovers host Kamloops United in the Men’s Division. Both sides have identical records at this stage and sit on 13 points, so a win in this game would be a huge boost for either side.

Also sitting level on points with the top two are Burnaby, who face Evolution away from home on Saturday. The visitors beat Vancouver Whitecaps Academy 3-0 in midweek and now have the same record as those above them, but because they are playing a day earlier than TSS and Kamloops, they could set the standard and go top into Sunday.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Nanaimo United will be chasing their first win of 2025 when they host seventh-place Unity. The home team have five losses and a tie so far, so could they kick-start their season against an inconsistent Unity side?

To conclude Men’s Division action, Langley United or Altitude can quietly move into the title race with a win against the other. Both sides sit on nine points currently, and the home side have a game in hand on those above them, so three points would be crucial.

Can perfect starts continue?

Unity can put the pressure on at the top of the standings, along with continuing their perfect start, when they travel to seventh-place Nanaimo. The home side currently sit three points behind Altitude with a game in hand. With five wins from five so far, another three points is the aim on Saturday.

For Altitude, they can make it seven wins from seven on Sunday when they are on the road to Langley United. The hosts will be no easy task, sitting fourth with two wins and three games in hand on third-placed Vancouver Rise Academy.

Also on Saturday, Burnaby will want to put their four consecutive defeats behind them when they face an Evolution side that have also struggled recently.

To tie up the weekend, TSS Rovers face bottom-side Kamloops United who claimed their first win of the season last week – a 3-2 home victory against Burnaby. This weekend presents an opportunity to start a good run of form, but TSS will be tough opponents.
