Weekend Preview: Chasing the summit
Altitude are looking to continue their title fight in the Women’s Division, while it’s a much closer story in the men’s competition.

Looking to rise
There is one game in each of the two L1BC divisions this Friday, with Vancouver Rise Academy looking to close the gap in the Women’s Division.
The current second-placed side host Burnaby at 5pm, with the chance to move within two points of top spot ahead of Saturday. Even with a win, however, Altitude will still have two games in hand, and with 10 victories from 11 so far, Vancouver have a big job on their hands if they are to claim top spot.
A day later, Kamloops will be searching for their second win of the season in a bid to close the gap at the bottom. With one victory from 11 so far, only maximum points is acceptable against an Evolution side who have had mixed fortunes in the league so far this season.
Elsewhere, Langley United can make it three unbeaten with a positive result against Nanaimo United. The two sides currently sit in the bottom half, and last met in May when they tied 2-2.
There is just one game on Sunday to conclude another weekend in the Women’s Division, when Altitude look to make it 11 victories from 12 as they face TSS Rovers. Their winning run was ended last Wednesday, but the runaway leaders bounced back four days later to get back on track.
In the hunt
Burnaby could be in second place in the Men’s Division heading into Saturday, but they must first overcome Vancouver Whitecaps Academy on Friday night. They currently sit two points behind Langley, but a win at the Whitecaps would leapfrog them and move Burnaby to within a point of top spot.
On Saturday, Langley have the opportunity to respond to Burnaby’s result when they host winless Nanaimo United. With TSS Rovers not playing until a day later, the top three could have swapped around before the matchweek concludes.
Meanwhile, Evolution host Kamloops in a bid to move further away from the bottom. A win could move the hosts onto 12 points, and as high as sixth in the standings. The visitors are still in with a shout of finishing in the top three but need to put together a run of victories.
To wrap up another week of L1BC matches, TSS Rovers are on the road to face Altitude, looking to extend their lead at the summit of the standings. With eight wins from 11 so far, and Langley and Burnaby hot on their heels, three points is the goal. Their opponents will be no easy task, though, as they sit fourth with a chance to move up.
