WEEKend preview

Whitecaps return to action as TSS Rovers embark on a bye week, which could leave an interesting picture in the Men’s Division.

Burnaby host Rivers

Rivers FC and their Saturday hosts Burnaby FC occupy sixth and seventh in the Men’s Division standings, with the Kamloops side registering the only victory between them collectively this season. Perhaps this is the best chance for either team to add to their points tallies.

In the Women’s Division, Burnaby have won their last two and have flown to second in the standings. Rivers were also victorious last time out, defeating Harbourside FC 3-0, but are yet to win away from home this season.

Burnaby are currently the best-placed team to catch Whitecaps FC Academy at the top of the women’s standings, despite the gap being five points. If they are to add some pressure to the Vancouver side then a win against Rivers is mandatory.

Whitecaps vs Altitude

Returning to regular-season action for the first time since May 19, Whitecaps FC Academy could extend their perfect record in the Women’s Division this weekend, as well as their impressive lead in the standings.

While six points separate Whitecaps and Altitude FC in the Women’s Division, they are on equal points in the Men’s Division. The only difference in their records is that Altitude have played one more game, which ended in defeat.

With TSS Rovers not in action this weekend, whoever wins between Whitecaps or Altitude are guaranteed to go top of the men’s standings.

Unity vs Harbourside

This is a mid-table clash in the Men’s Division with Unity FC on eight points and Harbourside FC on seven, so expect a really close game between these sides on Sunday.

There is more of a gulf in the Women’s Division with Harbourside still searching for their first victory of the season, and Unity having had a mixed campaign so far with two wins, two losses, and two ties. There was a 2-1 win for each side in the two legs of this matchup last year; the Harbourside victory being part of their four-game winning streak.

In the 2023 Men’s Division, these teams shared the spoils in April before Unity were convincing 4-0 victors in early June.
