WEEKend preview

It’s a bye week for the Whitecaps, meaning there’s a chance for the rest of the divisions to pile some pressure on the leaders.

Burnaby vs TSS Rovers

Burnaby FC have had a mixed start to life in the League1 BC Women’s Division with one win, one tie, and a loss from their first three matches. TSS Rovers FC meanwhile have three points from their first three games.

It’s not the same story in the Men’s Division, with Burnaby without a win and rooted to the bottom of the standings. Three points will see them equal the tallies of Harbourside, Unity, and Rivers at the end of Friday, but it’s a tough ask against the in-form TSS Rovers.

The Rovers are just one win away from going top of the standings and extending their perfect start to four matches.

Harbourside vs Altitude

Altitude FC need a victory at Harbourside FC in the Women’s Division if they are to put any kind of pressure on Whitecaps Girls Elite, who are a staggering nine points clear of Altitude at the top of the standings. A win for Harbourside could take them off the bottom of the table and move them up to third, proving how tight the division is at the moment.

Three points for Harbourside in the Men’s Division would mean they draw level with Altitude on points, but Altitude will have sights on drawing level with Whitecaps.

Very little split these sides in the Men’s Division last year – a goalless tie and a narrow 2-1 Altitude win were the results from the two meetings in 2023. The same cannot be said in the Women’s Division with Altitude winning 1-0 and 5-0 across the two games.

Unity vs Rivers

Unity FC are one point ahead of Rivers FC in the Women’s Division and victory could see them leapfrog from fourth to second in the table, but the Kamloops club have only lost once from their opening four games.

In the Men’s Division, both these sides are glued together as two of three teams on four points. While results elsewhere could see this match’s victor join a clump of teams with seven points, the loser would inevitably drift further away from the top half of the table.

Unity beat Rivers twice in the 2023 women’s regular season, 6-1 and 2-1, and despite a 7-0 win for Unity in their first meeting in last year’s Men’s Division, they shared the spoils from a 1-1 tie in the run-in.
