Weekly Preview: Langley continue solid start with livestreamed home opener

L1BC heads into Matchweek Four with the standings beginning to take shape across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions.

Table-toppers in action on Saturday

Following a goal-fest in Matchweek Three, League1 BC is picking up momentum across its two divisions.

Unity’s women have begun 2025 in perfect fashion, sitting top with two wins from their opening two games against Burnaby and Vancouver Rise Academy. They host TSS Rovers on Saturday, April 26, who have started the season with a win and two losses.

The two sides finished second and third in 2024, respectively, but were both defeated in the playoffs. Unity held the upper hand last season by beating TSS 5-1 at home and tying 2-2 on the road, so the visitors will be looking to put their mark on this matchup.

In the men’s league, Kamloops United are in first place following wins against Langley United and Evolution. Looking to extend their lead from TSS Rovers at the summit in their first season after a rebrand, Kamloops host Altitude who have one point from their opening matches.

Kamloops were superior in this matchup last year, when they won 1-0 as Rivers, and held onto a 0-0 tie away from home.

Remember that all League1 BC fixtures are doubleheaders, meaning Unity also host TSS Rovers in the Men’s Division and Kamloops and Altitude face off in the Women’s Division.

The action doesn’t stop there

There are still two more matches in each of the two divisions on Saturday. The first of these sees Nanaimo host Burnaby – two winless teams in the Women’s Division.

The home side have lost both their two games so far in 2025, losing to Evolution and Altitude, and last year’s playoff finalists Burnaby were beaten 4-0 by Unity in the opening matchweek.

It is a similar story for the men’s Nanaimo side, who have a loss and a tie so far. For Burnaby, though, they have tasted victory this season in their convincing 4-0 win against Unity on April 12.

A solo Sunday showing

There is just one matchup on Sunday across the two divisions, with Langley United hosting Vancouver’s academy teams live on YouTube.

The Vancouver Whitecaps Academy are the visitors in the Men’s Division, a side who have begun the season with a mixed results. They started the year with a win at Altitude, but followed it up with two defeats, notably a 6-1 loss to TSS Rovers. For the men’s Langley side, they have one win and one loss so far and sit in midtable.

The current women’s title holders, Vancouver Rise Academy, are yet to kick into top gear with a win and two defeats so far this campaign. Meanwhile, Langley have begun perfectly with two wins from their two matches.

Not only have Langley enjoyed positive starts to this season, but they are making their home debut in League1 BC this weekend, so these are definitely games to watch.
