Mixed fortunes on Sunday
There was a home and away win as Vancouver Whitecaps Academy and Vancouver Rise Academy travelled to Altitude on April 6th.
It was an exciting matchup in the Men’s Division between the sides who finished second and third in the 2024 standings. Altitude’s half-time lead thanks to Thomas Budisa was cancelled out by Akiz Aguma six minutes into the second half.
Noel Poole made it 2-1 to the Whitecaps on 86’, moments before his red card in injury time. The academy team held on top the standings after Matchweek One.
There was also late action in the women’s match when Altitude’s Olivia Gomez secured a dramatic winner in a five-goal thriller.
Altitude had established a two-goal lead against the Rise; Hannah Bains put the home side ahead before a Rise own goal made it 2-0. Two goals in two minutes before half-time brought Vancouver back level, but they could not hold on to the point in the end.
