Weekly Rewind: Fighting back and claiming revenge

There were dropped points at the summit of both divisions this week, before Altitude’s women bounced back with victory against Unity on Sunday.

TSS handed advantage

The gap at the summit of the Men’s Division is just one point, and TSS in second still have a game in hand.

Rovers were handed a huge advantage without playing over the weekend as Langley ahead of them could only tie with Evolution on Saturday. After what seemed like a perfect start from Kevin Podgorni, Dominic di Paola equalized for the hosts in the second half to pile the pressure on Langley.

TSS did play in midweek, defeating Vancouver Whitecaps Academy 2-1 thanks to an Ivan Mejia brace. They have now lost just once since April.

Kamloops claimed their fifth win of the season after beating Nanaimo United 3-1 at Hillside Stadium. It was the visitors who took a first-half lead through Suka Behery, but a goal from Daniel Sagno and a Lachlan Will brace secured the points. Nanaimo are still searching for their first win this season.

The final game of the weekend saw Altitude and Unity tie 2-2, just four days after Altitude won 5-0 in this same fixture. The home side took a 2-0 lead in the first half, and it looked like the midweek game was replicating itself, but Victory Shumbusho scored a penalty in the 67th minute before completing his brace with three minutes remaining to earn a point for Unity.

Advantage extended

Altitude claimed their 10th win of 2025 to make it a five-point gap at the top of the Women’s Division. The weekend’s games started on Saturday, though, with Langley winning 2-1 at Evolution. Kate Erhardsen opened the scoring for the hosts, but Raya Athwal and Sierra Bergen turned the game on its head to move their side into sixth.

A day later, Altitude ensured Unity did not beat them twice in a week when Emma Yee scored a brace alongside Holly Whelan’s goal to win 3-1. Unity had handed their opponents their first defeat of the year and ended their nine-game winning streak in midweek, but the league leaders battled back on Sunday.

Vancouver Rise Academy are keeping the pressure on the leaders. Their midweek 2-1 win against TSS Rovers was their fifth in a row, giving them the best form card in League1 BC.

Nanaimo extended the gap between themselves and the bottom as they beat Kamloops 2-1 away from home. A Ruby Nicholas brace after 12 minutes ensured the visitors claimed their third win of the season and left their opponents on three points in the standings.
