Whitecaps’ title pursuits

Whitecaps FC Academy’s men’s and women’s sides earned a mix of results against Unity FC on Wednesday.

The men’s team managed to force a 1-1 tie at Unity, with Amirmahdi Ghasemi’s second-half leveler for the visitors cancelling out Joel Badger’s early opener. The result means hosts Unity sit fourth in the standings and at risk of falling out of the playoff spots, while Whitecaps occupy second.

Unity’s women’s team fell victim to a 4-2 defeat to Whitecaps thanks in part to goals from the free-scoring Kaylee Hunter and Jeneva Hernandez Gray. Whitecaps are now six points clear at the standings’ summit, while Unity fall to third.

Winning week for Rovers

TSS Rovers FC had a fantastic Friday as their men’s and women’s sides picked up maximum points against Rivers FC.

The game from the Women’s Division saw Jenna Baxter net the only goal of the game, which was enough for Rovers to seal a 1-0 victory and send them up to fourth in the standings and into the playoff spots. Rivers, however, remain sixth.

The Rovers men’s team ran riot as they beat Rivers 5-1 thanks in part to a brace from Massud Habibullah. As a result, Rovers climb to third in the standings and are three points off top spot with two games in hand, while Rivers sit sixth like their women’s counterparts.

High fives

The matchups between Burnaby FC and Altitude FC were both high-scoring, as the teams at the business end of the standings came out on top.

Altitude won 5-1 against Burnaby and became the new leaders in the Men’s Division; Ambrose Tinmouth’s brace proved a big help to the visitors, and he has now scored three goals across his last three matches.

Meanwhile Burnaby’s women’s team continue to hunt down runaway leaders Whitecaps with a 5-0 success against Altitude thanks in part to Shanya Dhindsa’s treble. The hosts are second in the standings, while Altitude fall to fifth and out of the playoff positions.
