WEEKLY REWIND
Whitecaps continue Women’s Division run while the top of the Men’s Premier Division couldn’t be tighter.
Burnaby beat Rivers
It was a week of celebration at Burnaby FC as the men’s and women’s teams were victorious against the visiting Rivers FC.
The men’s side emphatically came back from 3-0 down inside 19 minutes at home to win 5-3, thanks to braces from both Arjun Mann and Asvin Chauhan. The Women’s Division victory was more comfortable, however, as Raegan Mackenzie’s two goals helped her side to a 3-0 victory.
The Burnaby women’s team sit second in their standings, while the men’s team’s inaugural win in League1 BC takes them to five points – one above rock-bottom Rivers.
Unity unite against Harbourside
Both Unity sides netted three times to seal all six points against Harbourside across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions this week.
The men’s team came out on top through a 3-1 win; Joel Badger’s brace proving pivotal in the result, and it was Ella Gagno’s two strikes that helped Unity’s women’s team cruise to a 3-0 win at Cloverdale Athletic Park.
The results mean that Unity sit third in the Men’s Division standings on 11 points – the same as TSS Rovers, Altitude FC and Whitecaps FC Academy – and their women’s side also sit third in their division with an identical record.
Whitecaps defiant against Altitude
Whitecaps FC Academy’s return to action was eventful to say the least, as four points were shared between their men’s and women’s teams in the latest matchweek.
Carson Buschman-Dormand’s leveler for Altitude 15 minutes from time denied Whitecaps’ men’s side all three points after David Ajagbe’s opener. The game finished 1-1, meaning that the men’s team are one of four teams on 11 points in the playoff spots.
The women’s team picked up all three points as they fired ten goals past their Altitude counterparts. Braces from Noelle Sather, Kierra Blundell and Kaylee Hunter meant the game finished 10-2 to the home side – a win that means their 100 per cent start to the campaign is maintained.
