WEEKLY REWIND
The goals flew in across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions, with some shock results on the cards.
Whitecaps drop points
The points were shared in the Men’s and Women’s Division matches between Altitude FC and Whitecaps FC Academy as both games finished 1-1.
Altitude became the first team to stop Whitecaps’ women from winning in the division this year. Jade Mitchell had opened the scoring for the hosts before the break and Kierra Blundell scored not long after the restart, with Altitude holding out for an impressive result.
In the Men’s Division, a leveler from Whitecaps’ Benjamin Lee just before the hour mark cancelled out Ambrose Tinmouth’s early opener for the hosts, as these sides shared the spoils for the second time in four days.
TSS Rovers clash with Harbourside
TSS Rovers FC went unbeaten against Harbourside FC, picking up a total of four points at home across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions.
The final result in the men’s game was 3-3, after Dominic Di Paola’s strike two minutes from time rescued a point for the hosts. It was a goal that denied Harbourside their third win of the season and saw the Rovers maintain their position at the top of the standings.
Kaitlan Cerney was the hero for the hosts in the women’s clash, as her second-half goal saw Rovers come from behind to win 2-1 – a result that took the hosts up to fifth in the standings, with the visitors four points adrift at the bottom.
Whitecaps defiant against Altitude
The Men’s Division clash between Rivers FC and Burnaby FC was won by the hosts; the game finishing 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Ryan Lewis and Robert Woodroffe-Brown.
It was a similar story in the Women’s Division, but with different victors. This game finished 2-1 to Burnaby as Kate Cartier’s 60th-minute strike sealed all three points and their fourth consecutive win.
Burnaby have now closed the gap on the leaders Whitecaps to three points in the Women’s Division, and Rivers are off the foot of the Men’s Division standings at their opposition’s expense.
