Burnaby unbeaten against TSS Rovers

It was an undefeated matchweek for Burnaby FC as both men’s and women’s sides picked up valuable results.

The men’s team played out a goalless tie with their TSS Rovers FC counterparts, who went down to 10 men in the first half. It was the first time that the Rovers have dropped points in the Men’s Division this season, yet they still moved above Whitecaps FC Academy to lead the standings, and only the second point for Burnaby of the campaign. Will this result be a turning point for the expansion team’s season?

The women’s team showed the men’s team how it’s done, picking up all three points against the Rovers thanks to Mia Pante’s winner. She smashed home a goal-mouth scramble, with the final kick of the game, for her side’s second win of the campaign.

Harbourside lose Altitude

Altitude FC earned all six points across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions with both their sides winning against Harbourside FC.

In the Men’s Division, second-half goals from Carson Buschman-Dormand and Athos de Siqueira saw Altitude run out 2-0 winners and move to third in the table, on the same points as TSS Rovers and Whitecaps FC Academy – albeit having played more games.

In the Women’s Division, Jade Mitchell found the net yet again to complete a turnaround at Harbourside. The game finished 2-1 to the visitors and meant Whitecaps’ impressive lead at the top of the standings was reduced to six points.

Unity defeat Rivers

Like Altitude, Unity picked up all six points; this time against Rivers.

Victory Shumbusho’s 43rd-minute penalty kick made sure Unity’s men’s side got the better of their Rivers counterparts, but it could have been much more if it wasn’t for some outstanding goalkeeping heroics from Jackson Gardner who saved two other penalties in the game.

Strikes from Charity Field and Maycee Slater in the Women’s Division saw Unity defeat Rivers with a 2-0 win. They sit third in the standings heading into Matchweek Six with Rivers still looking for their first three-point haul.
