finals day preview
It’s all to play for on Finals Day with an exciting doubleheader at Swangard Stadium.
Women’s Final
Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy vs Burnaby FC
Kick off: 1pm
Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy have enjoyed an undefeated season, winning the Women’s Division regular-season trophy with games to spare as they registered 10 wins from 12 matches in 2024.
It’s also been a season to remember for Burnaby FC, who have made it to the Women’s Division Final in their inaugural season, winning six regular-season matches and defeating Unity in the playoff semifinals on penalties.
Whitecaps have beaten Burnaby twice this season, 2-0 on the road in May and 4-0 at home in mid-July. But Burnaby have proven they can grind out results as recently as last weekend, and will no doubt be full of confidence following the manner of their playoff win.
This is also Burnaby’s final League1 game of the 2024 season – a last opportunity to showcase themselves – and Whitecaps will be travelling to Ontario next week to take part in the League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship.

Men’s Division
TSS Rovers FC vs Altitude FC
Kick-off: 4pm
There will be new Men’s Division champions this year after holders Whitecaps FC Academy were beaten in the playoff semifinals by Altitude FC, who backed up their second-place finish in the standings by impressively punching their ticket to Finals Day.
Standing in their way of the League1 BC history books are TSS Rovers. The regular-season champions finished three points ahead of Altitude in the standings and have made Swangard Stadium a fortress this campaign.
Altitude know all too well the threat their hosts carry, having been heavily beaten 6-0 at Swangard in the regular season back in May. A lot has happened in the two months since; however, particularly Altitude’s rise up the standings into a dramatic title battle, and their meeting in July was a much closer game that resulted in a 1-0 win for the visiting Rovers.
As if this game doesn’t have enough magnitude already, this fixture is known as the Ironworkers Derby – a reference to the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge that runs between the North Shore and the rest of Greater Vancouver.
Silverware, bragging rights, personal pride, and a whole season on the line; who will come out on top? Get your tickets or tune in to League1 BC’s YouTube channel.

About Swangard Stadium
The latest chapter in Swangard Stadium’s long and proud history will be written this weekend when hosting the 2024 League1 BC Finals Day.
The stadium was named after Vancouver Sun sports journalist Erin Swangard, who raised over $1 million for its construction in 1969. In the 55 years since, the stadium has hosted many teams and sporting events and was most notably the home of the Vancouver Whitecaps for 23 years before their entry into the Major League Soccer in 2011.
Swangard Stadium was also used in the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup, and the Canadian Men’s and Women’s National Teams have previously used it as a home ground in Olympic and World Cup qualifying. It’s not only soccer that has been played at Swangard but also ultimate frisbee, track and field events and even quidditch.
This season, it has been home to TSS Rovers’ League1 BC home games and their Swangardians supporter group, and you can be sure there will be a great atmosphere for at Finals Day this Sunday.
